GreenGeeks offers those looking for hosting an interesting proposition: fully eco-friendly solutions for their websites. Instead of feeling guilty about cranking up the carbon footprint, punters can take solace in that GreekGeeks actually helps our environment. But does it stack up in technical terms?
Our final verdict was a 4.5/5, making it one of the top hosting performers we’ve looked at. Find out why in our full GreenGeeks review, where we’ll give you the A to Z of what you need to know before pulling the trigger.
Who Is GreenGeeks For?
What makes GreenGeeks one of the top choices for hosting is that the prices are amongst the cheapest on the market – well, for good hosting anyway. You can get packages for $1 a month, but considering those companies tend to disappear as quickly as they’re founded we don’t recommend you risk your business there.
The shared hosting packages are perfect for those of you that are looking to host multiple small niche or local business sites. GreenGeeks is also a good option if you’re a web developer or SEO consultant that wants to offer their client base managed hosting. The reseller accounts are extremely low-cost, giving you the chance to run a healthy profit in addition to your standard services.
Pros and Cons
One of the main benefits you’ll get with GreenGeeks is that the company is eco-friendly. Of course, the servers still need energy from the grid but to compensate the company purchases wind credits to the tune of 3x what they use (hence the 300% claim). Considering most companies online are often looking to make a quick buck, it’s nice to see that GreenGeeks places ethical concerns at the top of the priority list.
When you sign up with GreenGeeks, you also get a FREE domain name for life. That means you won’t have to head over to GoDaddy to register your domain separately, and it also makes the setup process much smoother. There is a catch, however. The domain will only be free as long as you stick around and you should want to move it to another registrar, you’ll get charged a small admin fee. It’s not much, but worth keeping in mind.
Do keep in mind that GreenGeeks main packages run on shared servers. You only get finite resources allocated to your account and your sites will be mixed in with others that share the server space. Therefore, performance can never be as fast or streamlined as what you’d find on dedicated packages.
Available Packages
The shared hosting plans run at around $4 per month and you get unlimited web space, bandwidth, emails, and MySQL databases. In addition, you get free migration from your current host as well as a one-click builder to get your site up and running quickly.
If you need a little bit more, consider going for the VPS or dedicated options. You’ll pay quite a lot more, but for sites that are resource-intensive there’s no other option. Don’t go bottom of the barrel if you need something robust and lightning-quick for your customers.
About GreenGeeks

Considering the company’s eagerness to have a zero carbon footprint and the fact that its hosting packages are rock-solid, there’s no reason not to go for GreekGeeks. You’ll get a great host where servers have decent specs and uptime – can you really ask for more?
