When it comes to big-name web hosts, DreamHost certainly ranks right up there. Its name has become synonymous with top-notch servers and service, as well as competitive prices that won’t break the bank. But how did it perform in our DreamHost review?
We thought about it for quite some time, but ended up deciding that DreamHost was deserving of our top 5/5 rating. It really has few to no downsides, and considering the extras you receive, as part of the standard packages there’s nothing we can really complain about.
Who Is DreamHost For?
DreamHost is suitable for pretty much anyone who needs a home on the web. From small businesses to sites that require their server to pack quite a punch, DreamHost has a package available.
Pros and Cons
One massive plus-point is that DreamHost has servers dotted around the world. And each new website gets a new IP address. This means that you can host your sites on separate servers through a single account. If you know anything about SEO, you should already be getting a little bit excited about this.
In terms of support, we were very impressed. All staff is based in Los Angeles and the response time and expertise is second to none. We don’t foresee that you’ll run into any problems.
Perhaps one downside is that the company doesn’t offer instant chat support. Instead, you’ll have to raise a ticket through their online system. While they usually respond extremely quickly, it’s not the same as getting an instant response. If you’re a technophobe that requires a wee bit of handholding, DreamHost may not be suitable.
Available Packages
DreamHost is generally known for its flagship offer, the shared hosting package that runs at just $8.95 per month. You get unlimited bandwidth, domains, emails, databases, and storage. Emails have built-in spam filtering, which many other cheaper hosts don’t offer.
One lesser-known package that you may not have heard of is DreamPress, the dedicated solution for WordPress sites. If you want to run your site on this popular CMS, then this package is one of the best on offer. It’s optimized for quick load times, security (protection from hackers), and you’ll also get the backing from WordPress experts.
Of course, if you like managing your own servers then you should jump on the VPS or dedicated packages. The VPS is particularly impressive, with unlimited bandwidth and storage. You just pay more when you decide to ramp up the RAM on your account.
About DreamHost
DreamHost always ranks amongst the best hosts on the web, competing with other big names ever since it started as a small outfit back in 1997. Now, the company boasts over 1500 servers, over 100 full-time employees, and over 1 million hosted websites.
DreamHost also has a well-kept secret: the company is committed to the environment and offsets server energy usage by investing in Renewable Energy Credits. While companies like GreenGeeks are famous for their eco efforts, DreamHost doesn’t get the plaudits it deserves.
DreamHost is undoubtedly one of the top performers when it comes to shared hosting. Whether you need a small package for your local business website or a dedicated server with all bells and whistles attached, DreamHost won’t let you down.
