Why We Need a New Website

The Summit Hill neighborhood is approximately 75 square blocks in the city of Saint Paul, bounded by Summit Avenue on the north, interstate 35E on the south and east and Ayd Mill Road on the west. Also included in the district is the quaint Grand Avenue area. An integral part of any community is the bond that is created amongst it's residents. Communication plays a key role in every community. Through a new web site the Summit Hill Association will be able to better communicate the key issues and opportunities that are facing our district while enhancing the quality of living and life.

The Summit Hill Association is positioning itself to provide a new level of support and resources for the residents of the neighborhood. In order to effectively provide greater support and communication for the neighborhood, the organization needs an upgraded web solution. Unfortunately, the district councils never have the budgets to do all the things that their residents want. In this situation, the council has been frugal with their monies and has prioritized its available resources but still is unable to afford even well-below market rates for a website. Supporting the Summit Hill Association with providing them a new website will bring the organization to a new height, being able to portray the beautiful history along with providing resources in a more useful and intuitive manner for the thousands of people who are located there.

The website is very outdated, with colors that make the content hard to read. This association does great things, and represents an important area of St. Paul, revamping the website would prove to be very integral in meeting the association's goals.

The Summit Hill Association serves thousands of people in this neighborhood district. This area is a great place to live and raise a family. People are active in the neighborhood in a variety of ways. With an improved website, the SHA could better communicate how it can be of help to people in the community and what resources are available for assistance.

The Summit Hill Association is a progressive planning council with a ‘not so progressive’ website. While the SHA is devoted to preserving the historical nature of the neighborhood, it does not aim to preserve the historical nature of the SHA website. :) In order to better serve the neighborhood, the SHA needs to revamp its website. However, the SHA does not have the type of budget necessary to develop a website with the functionality to deliver the level of service the neighborhood deserves. Please help bring the SHA website up with the times.

An antiquated web site that could use some major improvements. Not particularly user-friendly, and the page layout doesn't work. The SHA deserves a lot better; something that better portrays the feeling of the Summit Avenue Neighborhood, something more clear and concise. Being a resident of St. Paul, I feel that Summit Avenue, along with Grand Avenue, have earned a more fashionable and enticing web site, with the hopes of encouraging more people/activity into this classy, elegant, yet totally hip area.

"The future does not belong to those who are content with today, apathetic toward common problems and their fellow man alike, timid and fearful in the face of bold projects and new ideas. Rather, it will belong to those who can blend passion, reason and courage in a personal commitment to the ideals of American society". This quote, by Robert F. Kennedy, represents the dedication and committment of neighbors in the Summit Hill Neighborhood. We have a common bond that unites us together: The love of our city and passion for our neighborhood. We dedicate ourselves to eachother, building stronger neighborhoods. These neighborhoods become strong districts and in turn create a vibrant and productive community. With a web site "makeover" we will be able to better communicate our projects and programs to people in our community and have a greater opportunity to enhance the quality of life in our neighborhood. I commend the web designers and others for giving up their precious time to provide non-profits with new and improved web sites-something that is a necessity in this modern age.

While I don't live in the area, I spend a lot of time there and appreciate the neighborhood's charm, vibrance, and contributions to a lively and livable Saint Paul. The SHA provides an important structure and resource for the community as it maintains its illustrious history and builds momentum for a better future. It's website should reflect that dynamic and, right now, it doesn't. The World Wide Web is increasingly the source--in many cases the exclusive source--of residents' and visitors' information about a neighborhood and events going on there. With a revamped website, the SHA will be able to better pursue its goals and continue with its important work.

As co-chair of the Communications committee, I can assure you that this organiziation is excited about the opportunity to to be involved in the PROCESS of this event - working with a team of web professionals to idenitify and implement creative ways for our organization to use web technology to better serve our community! Our current website is outdated (from an administrative, visual and techological standpoint), and is not meeting its potential. By collaborating with a web team in the F1 Challenge, SHA will be better able to fulfill its mission by providing a resource for the district as well as a tool to inform and connect the community. In addition, the Summit Hill Association is one of seventeen Saint Paul District Councils - which means that there are 16 similar organizations who could use the work done by the challenge team as a model for web technology use in their districts. This has the potential to benefit all residents of the City of Saint Paul.

If you spend five minutes in this area, you realize it's historic yet young and new age while professional. A web site that represents this board and in turn the area needs to be as dynamic. Pictures of residence, projects and area events are needed to show the area's spirit. I look forward to using the site to become more involved with the area.

The number of volunteers we get to contribute to our neighborhood organization is astounding. People cheefully donate time, money, ideas, talent and hard work to make this a better place to live. I hope we can use the website to get our message out to the community even more effectively. We believe that the work we do locally makes a difference in the world. We hope you'll help is in our mission. Mark Sutherland SHA President

Having grown up in the Summit Hill area my whole life I have seen it really become a great area of St. Paul. A new website which is much more functional and user friendly would only improve the communication of all the mission and activities this district provides the city. With the Republican National Convention coming to St. Paul in September, this area of town will have a very high visibility profile, and a new website would be extremely wonderful to help show all the visitors what a great district we live in. A new website would help not only immediately but also for the next many many years of residents and businesses to the area.

Stronger communities do not just "happen", they arise by the efforts of the individuals who live and work in them. I have lived in the Summit Hill area for just 5 years, but already know the hard work being done to provide a safe, attractive, productive and connected community. An over-haul of their website will give the Summit Hill Association the new-age tools needed to continue this hard work into the 21st century. We will be better able to reach out to new and existing neighbors, bringing their attention to neighborhood activity and inspiring more individuals to be involved, engaged; INVESTED in making a community stronger. And this new website will certainly make news as the RNC comes to town just months into 2008.
