About Us

For 51 years ABC has been improving the quality of life for persons with disabilities in SE Minnesota through a number of programs that focus on the whole person - vocational development, life-skills management, recreation, and education. For 800 persons with disabilities in SE Minnesota, our work means a life of "inclusion" rather than the alternative. For the first time in the history of humankind, our society has made it a priority not to lock up, destroy, hide, or otherwise exclude persons with disabilities from enjoying a life that includes work and educational opportunities on par with those enjoyed by their non-disabled counterparts. We are at a unique point in history, in which the goal is to treat disabilities as nothing other than a challenge to be overcome through the same path anyone overcomes challenges - with support, education, and personal development. That is our goal, and we know that we can tap the internet to become a greater and greater source for donors, business partners, and service referrals. Through our Website, we feel it's possible to close the gap between what is and what can be.

Why We Need a New Website

Our current Website is pretty good. Someone seeking information about our agency would find the basic information he or she sought. But the site lacks a marketing focus. We do many things for many different kinds of consumers here, and our site could do a better job of helping a user identify exactly who among all our possible consumers - business customer needing our services, person with disability seeking our services, potential donor, etc. - he or she is. Ideally, the site would guide users to make that determination transparently, and then provide content more directly related to his or her needs. We really need a way for our many programs to update content particular to them, establishing a more direct connection with their particular consumers, and so forth.

Maybe it would help if we listed who we think our consumers are:
-Charitable donors
-Persons with disabilities residing in SE Minnesota, or their families, guardians, or concerned others
-Businesses seeking to employ people with disabilities
-Businesses seeking workers, with no knowledge or particular interest in the fact that our employees are persons with disabilities
-Businesses seeking services that we provide, such as sign-making, digital imaging, product assembly, and data entry
-Businesses seeking unique solutions to their staffing needs
