Touchstone Mental Health
About Us
Mission: Touchstone Mental Health inspires hope, healing and well-being.Vision: Touchstone Mental Health is an innovative leader in creating opportunities and sustainable communities for people living with mental illness.
For 25 years, Touchstone Mental Health has provided an array of person-centered, holistic services in Hennepin County, Minnesota to adults living with serious and persistent mental illness, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. In an effort to meet the multiple needs of this population, Touchstone strives to develop and implement ground-breaking approaches to treatment, housing, and rehabilitation.
In addition to conventional programs such as intensive residential treatment and case management services (in-home services), Touchstone Mental Health offers housing and mental health support:
• Through intentional communities that provide housing subsidies and the support of a community of peers.
• Through an assisted living program designed specifically for adults with serious mental illness.
• Through integrative or complementary therapies such as acupuncture and healing touch.
Touchstone Assisted Living Apartments and Intentional Communities are the first such programs in Minnesota for persons with serious mental illness.
Why We Need a New Website
Although we have provided services to persons with serious mental illness for 25 years, Touchstone is relatively unknown except to the community that we serve. Our board has set us the task of increasing our visibility in the community with the support of updated technology. Increased visibility means consumers and their families will become more aware of our services. Increased visibility means Touchstone will connect to donors interested in its mission who will support our development of ground-breaking programs. And finally, increased visibility means we find excellent employees who are passionate about our mission. Our current website is decent and serves primarily to provide basic information about our agency and our services to prospective consumers and their family members and to prospective employees, but we need additional functionality to support our mission:
1. We would like to give our consumers a voice, telling their stories in text and possibly in audio.
2. Our current site does not have the capacity to accept online gifts, and we want to make it easier for our supporters to donate and possibly for us to find new donors.
3. The site needs evaluation for website optimization to make sure our information is reaching our potential online audiences.
4. We need an online form for our audiences to sign up to receive our newsletter.
5. With 71 staff in 4 different locations, we need an intranet to provide information about benefits, events, new staff, etc., freeing up administrative staff’s time to implement other projects to help our consumers and their families as well our staff.
6. We need a content management system that would allow various personnel to update pages, both for the inter- and the intranet.
7. We need the ability to check links quickly and easily to make sure our audiences are not experiencing problems in accessing our information.

Our Mission
Most of our consumers live at or below the poverty level and receive federal funding for treatment and services. We base our efforts on consumers' identified needs and wishes, and our programs provide them the following benefits:1. Mental illness often wreaks havoc in the lives of ordinary, intelligent, worthwhile people. Our staff helps people manage their mental illnesses, enjoy increased stability, find supportive communities, and establish meaningful lives.
2. Through our services, individuals learn the importance of developing supports and taking medication. When their illnesses interfere, our staff encourages and helps them connect to resources.
3. Persons with persistent mental illness often experience setbacks and frequent hospitalizations. With our help, consumers find increased stability in their lives, better control of their symptoms, and fewer hospitalizations.
4. Persons with mental illness are often alone. Their families and friends may have withdrawn from them, exhausted by the havoc that mental illness creates. Through Touchstone Mental Health, individuals form essential human relationships, find more meaning in their lives, and discover interests in activities in their communities, spirituality, new hobbies, or other learning.
5. Persons with mental illness have basic human rights, along with their responsibilities. Our staff assures our consumers that their lives are valuable and that they can be responsible.
6. Adults yearn to be independent and simultaneously yearn to make contributions to their communities. Individuals with mental illness are no different. Our staff helps them live independently, whether in a supportive community, an assisted living apartment, or their own apartments or homes.
7. We help persons with mental illness reclaim their lives.
